FROM MARTIN,
ASSOCIATE EDITOR OF FREELANCE WRITING WORLD:
You've read about character arcs. You know what your protagonist is supposed to do to save the world from total destruction. You've divided your story into three acts. So why hasn't your script been made into a movie yet?
There are thousands – if not tens of thousands – of people around the world who have a great idea for a Hollywood movie.
However, turning that idea into words on a page – a script that can actually be made into a movie – takes more than just sitting at your computer and typing. Your plot and characters aren't going to magically pour on to the page.
Screenwriting is an art form that definitely has a formula. That's because the end result is a movie. And movies typically follow certain rules and guidelines.
I recommend the Movie in a Month course
If you want to turn your seed of an idea into a movie, one of the best resources to make this happen is Movie in a Month.
Okay, okay, don't get hung up about the “month” bit. While this book will definitely show you how to write a movie in a month, I personally think it's ok to take a little longer and not rush things!
Enjoy the process and get into it. You'll learn so much from this course that you'll want to let it all soak in and let yourself take a bit longer than a month to let it all happen. (But if you're in a hurry, you could definitely have a script finished in 28 days!).
Movie in a Month is written by James Lamberg. He's written (and ghost-written) over 50 screenplays. He's a veteran of the industry and knows exactly what it takes to write a winning screenplay.
You'll learn from the best.
As James says: “Hollywood is a tough place – BUT so long as you follow a few certain rules, it is NOWHERE NEAR as difficult or as cut-throat as some screenwriters would have you believe!”
James's book:
- Tells you all you need to know about plotting.
- How to grab the audience and keep them hooked into your story
- The right number of scenes
- Reveals a step by step process in writing a great script
- How to make any scene really come to life
- What you MUST know about all your characters to make them work
- How (and on which pages) to write turning points
Why not find out the rules from an expert? James shares them in his Movie in a Month course .
You'll learn what you need to make your script a success!
I'm a big fan of James's Movie in a Month course because I'm a strong believer that while writing is an art, there is also a method to it.
I don't believe that successful screenwriters sit there and wait for inspiration to strike. It's not as if a lightning bolt will come and then voila - you they have a million dollar script in your hands.
Hollywood – like most businesses – wants movies that put bums on seats. And there is a formula to make those movies. James reveals that formula!
